Nhyira Aboodoo shifts to monumental projects, injects GH₵270,000 into Ashanti orphanages

This year’s Nhyira Aboodoo charity event in the Ashanti region was a huge success, with a GH₵270,000 donation to orphanages.

For more than two decades, Nhyira FM, through the benevolence of its audience, has put smiles on the faces of beneficiaries, including children, the physically challenged, widows and widowers.

Lots of kind-hearted individuals and groups show up every year at the station, donating stuff and cash to support the ‘Nhyira Abodoo’ charity event.

This year’s edition reached out to 27 orphanage homes that received clothing, food items and confectionery.

A cash amount of ¢270,000 was distributed among the orphanage homes. Each beneficiary received an average of ¢5,000 to ¢9,000 in cash in addition to clothes and food items.

The children from the orphanages had a blast at this year’s event; as they danced, read Bible verses, and showed off their poetry skills, in merry making.

Kwaku Gyasi, the beloved Ghanaian gospel singer, lit up the stage with his popular tunes at the colourful event.

The children erupted in joyful dance, moving alongside the legend with unrestrained excitement.

He paused between songs to encourage and motivate the orphans, reminding them of their worth and urging them to keep hope alive.

“You are blessed, you are loved, and you can achieve great things,” he told the crowd, his voice echoing over the festive lights.

Programmes Director of Nhyira FM, Benjamin Fiifi Ocran, said management is impressed with the massive support the public has shown the Kumasi unit of the Multimedia Group.

“We extend our gratitude to every donor, both at home and abroad, who contributed various items. For more than two decades now, your unwavering support has enabled us to give back to the community, and it truly means the world to us.”

He announced that, starting in 2026, Nhyira FM intends to focus on launching major, long‑term projects for the orphanage homes.

“It won’t be business as usual all the time, just handing out food, drinks, clothes or cash. Starting in 2026, we’ll concentrate on monumental projects for the orphanage homes, so that whenever ‘Nhyira Aboodoo’ is mentioned, those initiatives will be the ones people remember.”

He is confident that the NGOs, philanthropists, and wealthy individuals, both at home and abroad, who have stood with the event since its inception will keep backing the vision and help turn it into reality.

He explained that donors keep on supporting “Nhyria Aboodoo” because they consistently receive heartfelt testimonies that highlight the impact of their contributions.

In her remarks, the lead host of Nhyira FM’s flagship “Obra” show, Ohemaa Benewaa, called on philanthropists and affluent supporters to keep backing the cause.

She reminded them that God never overlooks those who care for orphans, the disadvantaged, and the vulnerable.

She asked the beneficiaries to keep the donors in their prayers.

Managers of private and public orphanages in the Ashanti Region, whose homes have benefited from the event, shared how the Multimedia Group’s yearly Nhyira Aboodoo has transformed the lives of both the children and their caregivers.

“The funding we received has enabled us to continue the education of several children under our care. Thanks to Nhyira FM, we can keep the kids fed. The impact of these funds is truly wonderful, so I’m urging everyone to keep supporting the initiative,” said Sarah Anokye, CEO of Mercy For All Foundation

On her part, Janet Duah, Chief Care Officer at the Kumasi Children’s Home, noted, “The home has received support from Nhyira Aboodoo, which lets us cover school fees, healthcare and clothing for the children”.

One of the children at KiKu – Kinderhaus Kumasi spoke for his fellow orphans: “We’re deeply grateful to all our supporters. Your contributions have reached us, and we’ll keep you in our prayers. Please don’t stop—keep standing with us.”
