A brewing tension within the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council has intensified as the Kingmaker of the Ngleshie Alata Paramount Stool, Nii Akuntua Kojo X, has issued a strong warning against a planned press conference set to take place today, July 29, 2025. The press conference, themed “Reclaiming Ngleshie Alata Stool Lands and Setting the Records Straight,” has drawn sharp criticism from the royal elder.
In a strongly worded statement made available through the Ngleshie Alata Council of Ambassadors, Nii Akuntua Kojo X cautioned the initiator of the press event—believed to be a sub-divisional chief affiliated with Sempe—not to proceed, citing a lack of authority and legitimacy to address such sensitive matters on behalf of the Ngleshie Alata Stool.
“You lack the requisite capacity to speak on the theme you have chosen. Only the Ngleshie Alata Dzaasetse, Nii Okpe V, or the accredited Kingmakers have the authority to speak on these issues,” the statement read.
The Kingmaker further emphasized that Sempe does not hold land rights within Ngleshie Alata, and any land disputes should be settled through proper legal channels rather than social media or unauthorized public statements.
“If Sempe claims that Ngleshie Alata has encroached on its lands, the appropriate forum is the court—not the internet,” Nii Akuntua Kojo X added.
He referenced an ongoing legal matter—Suit No. GJ/1034/2024 (Nii Okpe V and 2 Others v. Nii Akwei Bonsu and Another)—which seeks to bar the individual in question from making further public pronouncements or taking actions that may inflame tensions in the area.
Furthermore, the Kingmaker recalled a previous contempt case (The Republic v. Nii Ayinsah Sasraku & 3 Others, Ex Parte Nii Okpe V, CR/0447/2022) in which the same individual narrowly avoided a custodial sentence. According to Nii Akuntua Kojo X, this pattern of behavior shows a deliberate attempt to cause confusion and division within the traditional setup for personal gain.
“You are warned not to organize the said press conference. These internal matters must not be turned into a social media war,” he concluded.
The statement comes amid growing concern within the Ga community about increasing fragmentation and disputes among traditional authorities. The call for restraint is seen as part of broader efforts by the recognized custodians of Ngleshie Alata’s heritage to preserve peace, order, and respect for traditional governance structures.
