JoyNews’ Newsfile will on Saturday, October 20 discuss two topical developments; the flooding of communities in the lower Volta Basin as a result of the Akosombo Dam spillage and the resignation of clergymen Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Reverend Eastwood Anaba for the board of trustees of the National Cathedral.

On September 15, the Volta River Authority opened the spillways of the Akosombo and Kpong Hydro Dams to let out excess water due to rising levels in the dams, causing floods in nine districts.

The affected communities include Battor, Tefle, Mepe, Sogakope, Adidome, and Anlo.

Residents in the Lower Volta Basin as well as some residents in parts of the Greater Accra, Eastern and Bono East regions also lost their homes and farms.

Rescue efforts are underway, with many residents self-evacuating and institutions and individuals distributing relief items.

It is on the back of this happening that JoyNews seeks to hold a conversation to find the way forward.

There have been yet to be heeded calls for government to declare a state of emergency.

And the second issue, hopefully you do remember that the contentious National Cathedral project has been put on hold because of financial difficulties.

Well, the issue doesn’t rest there, as some clergymen on the Board of Trustees who called for a suspension of the project for a financial audit to be undertaken, have recently resigned.

They are; Founder and General Overseer of United Denominations of Action Chapel Churches Worldwide, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, and President of Eastwood Anaba Ministries, Rev. Eastwood Anaba.

This brings to four the number of clergymen on the Board who have tendered their resignation.

The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, and Founder and Presiding Bishop of the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches, Dag Heward-Mills, had earlier resigned.

To properly understand the issues, make a date with the host of your most authoritative news analysis, Samson Lardy Anyenini, and his erudite panelists as they delve into these issues.

Newsfile will be aired live on the JoyNews channel on digital satellite channels 421 on DSTV and 144 on GoTV.

It will also be streamed on JoyNews’ Facebook or YouTube channels from 9 a.m. to noon.
