The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) has announced a 10% increase in the National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW) for 2025, raising it to GH₵19.97.

This new rate will come into effect on 1st March 2025. The decision was made after considering the current economic challenges, the cost of living, and the sustainability of businesses.

Fairwages Labour Ministry

The NTC, which includes representatives from the government, employers, and organised labour, underscored the importance of maintaining employment levels while addressing economic hardships.

A communiqué signed by Labour Minister Dr. Pelpuo, Ghana Employers Association President Nana Dr. Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee, and TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah highlighted that the 2025 NDMW would be exempt from tax.

Dr. Pelpuo, outlined the outcome of the negotiations, warned that institutions or organisations failing to comply with the new minimum wage would face sanctions under the law.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving living standards while balancing economic sustainability.

He commended the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for providing the technical expertise that contributed to the success of the negotiations.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson acknowledged the economic challenges faced by both workers and employers, stating, “We are in this together.”

He assured employers that the government would expedite the economic recovery to ensure businesses survive, thrive, and create the necessary employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

This agreement represents a collaborative effort to address the challenges facing Ghana’s workforce and sets a path towards economic recovery.
