New envoys pledge to deliver ‘concrete results’ under Mahama’s performance targets

Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassadors have pledged to deliver “concrete deliverables” under President John Mahama’s strict performance indicator system, saying that they fully understand the economic and diplomatic expectations of their new roles.

Speaking on behalf of the envoys during their commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, November 19, Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, Mrs Mona Hellen Kabuki Quartey, said her colleagues are ready to match President Mahama’s new results-driven approach to diplomacy.

According to her, the ambassadors are prepared to work with urgency and purpose.

“We are raring to arrive at our posts and deliver on the mandate of the Reset Agenda, which is to grow the economy of Ghana into the prosperous country that we all desire,” she stated.

Mrs Quartey welcomed the new performance indicator framework launched earlier this year, stressing that it gives clarity to their mission abroad.

“We express our gratitude for launching our Key Performance Indicators framework… This has given us clarity and confidence in working towards the vision and expected goals,” she said.

She reminded her colleagues of the President’s charge to them, saying, “Your expectation of us, and to quote you, Mr President, is to be proactive architects of our economic diplomacy, relentlessly seeking out and facilitating trade and investment opportunities for Ghana.”

According to her, the envoys recognise that Ghana’s diplomatic role has become more demanding in an increasingly complex global environment.

“In an increasingly interconnected world, the role of the Ghanaian envoy is even more critical than ever,” she said, adding that global challenges now require more strategic thinking and stronger partnerships.

Mrs Quartey noted that modern diplomacy also requires technological adaptation and fast, efficient services for citizens abroad.

“There will be higher demand for quality and speedy consular services, especially now that we have the quality control police on social media ready to make their voices heard. We must be careful,” she said.

She added that one of their Key Performance Indicators will be to make better use of technology to improve access and service delivery.

The Ambassador also spoke about the importance of engaging the Ghanaian diaspora, describing envoys as “change agents” responsible for bridging gaps and identifying opportunities for young Ghanaians abroad.

She expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the confidence reposed in them, and thanked the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for his support.

“Mr President, we thank you for your leadership and confidence in appointing us to represent you and our beloved motherland to the rest of the world,” she said.

She assured the President of the envoys’ full commitment.

“We are honoured to be part of your winning team, and we assure you of our dedication and commitment to land concrete deliverables… The Black Star will rise and shine.”
