NDC still committed to providing jobs, resolving welfare issues - Mustapha Gbande

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has called on party members to exercise restraint as the government works to address widespread concerns over jobs, contracts, and welfare.

The NDC, which won the 2024 general election by a landslide, is facing mounting pressure from supporters eager to see swift action on campaign promises. While some members expect job placements and contracts, others are demanding accountability for former government officials accused of mismanaging state resources.

Barely 10 months into its first year in office, the Mahama-led administration is grappling with growing expectations from both party loyalists and ordinary citizens.

In a statement issued by his office, Mr. Gbande acknowledged the legitimacy of the concerns but urged members to be measured in their demands.

“We appreciate all concerns, in whatever form they come, from the rank and file of the party, as well as from members and non-members alike. I urge everyone to remain calm as we explore practical ways to address all matters relating to jobs and relationships,” he said.

He emphasised that the leadership is aware of the enormous expectations, particularly from those who worked tirelessly to return the party to power after eight years in opposition. “As leaders, our foremost duty is to serve you with the hope of improving the common challenges that confront us in diverse ways,” he added.

Mr. Gbande noted that while the demands are understandable, many do not fully appreciate the complexities the government is managing to stabilise the economy and restore confidence in governance. “We do not fault anyone for not having full knowledge of the issues at hand. Your messages and expressions have been heard loud and clear,” he said.

He appealed to supporters to give the party and government the necessary time to deliver on their promises. “We only ask that you grant us the space and time to find lasting solutions, even if gradually. Our government continues to make steady progress, regardless of the challenges. Let us therefore remain measured in our outbursts, expressions, and communication of frustrations.”

Mr. Gbande reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to addressing members’ concerns while urging continued patience and solidarity.

“We stand fully with you on behalf of the President and the leadership of our great party. Remember, patience and resilience always triumph in the end.”
