The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the party will need a united front to push the party to victory in the 2024 elections.

Nii Ashie Moore said the party’s primaries will have winners and losers but must set aside differences after today.

Speaking to Joy News as part of his tour to monitor the primaries, he was satisfied with the processes.

“I have toured 20 out of 34 constituencies and I’m very impressed with the organisation,” he said.

“Our expectation is that we unite the rank and file of our party. All aspirants must understand each constituency can have only one representative in Parliament,” he added.

“We have to unite to bring the party to power. We have to help bring John Mahama to save Ghanaians from the current hardship”

Nii Ashie Moore said he was very happy with the level of organisation.

“Talking about euphoria, preparedness to take over the presidency and majority in parliament among others, I’m happy to see the day go this way”

He added that the process must be violence-free.

“We want to have a violence-free contest and have 100% vote for John Mahama”

He touched on issues in some constituencies.

“We have to resolve an issue or two in Odododiodio and Ablekuma South constituencies which are not voting in the parliamentary but that would be addressed and they can also vote after today.”

According to Nii Ashie Moore, NDC has targeted six more seats in the region in addition to the twenty seats to reward their hardworking delegates.

Earlier in the day, fifth-time parliamentary candidate hopeful and immediate past Chairman of the Ashaiman constituency, Tony Afenyo was not happy and asked for three additional hours as the exercise started late.

” According to the guidelines, voting should have started at 7:00 am but it started some minutes after 10:00 am. We should be ready to compensate for the time lost. The three hours must be added especially if delegates around have not been able to cast their vote to ensure voting ends fairly”

For Tony Afenyo, the day must bring the change the constituency has been hoping for.

” My first attempt was in 2004 and this being my fifth time, I expect things to go my way to be next parliamentary candidate for Ashaiman constituency. This Will help unite the party for the bigger victory in 2024″

Meanwhile, legal practitioner and first timer, David Worwui-Brown said since parliament is about legislation, the constituency deserves a lawyer to help make laws.
” This is not about being a first timer but the one who can do the work. Some got the opportunity and won in their first attempt and are doing tremendously well in parliament”

“I believe that amongst the three of us I stand the tallest and my chances are bright. I believe God will grant me the victory”

He said in the unlikely event where he loses, he will be willing to accept the outcome and work together as a party to help change the mess in Ashaiman.

Worwui-Brown was quite worried about the role of money in voting.

“Since yesterday, I have been receiving calls about other candidates sharing money and why I wouldn’t do same”

“I don’t want to buy votes. Silver and gold I have none. I’m only here to serve has been my response anytime the issue of money is raised”

The constituency has over 3,200 delegates.

There is heavy police presence at the African Advance park where voting is taking place.
