The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed sorrow and shock at the loss of eight distinguished Ghanaians in a tragic helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, in the Ashanti Region.
The deceased included high-ranking members of the Party and personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, who were on a national assignment at the time of the incident.
In a press statement issued on August 6, the NDC described the event as a “devastating moment” for both the Party and the nation, lamenting the irreplaceable loss of “loyal comrades” and “exemplary patriots” who served Ghana with “honour, courage, and unwavering dedication.”

Among those who tragically lost their lives were:
- Hon. Dr Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence and a leading NDC figure
- Hon. Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Member of Parliament, and long-time Party stalwart
- Dr Samuel Sarpong – National Vice Chairman of the NDC
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Mr Samuel Aboagye – Former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East (2020, 2024)
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo

The Party noted that the loss goes beyond political affiliations, impacting the very fabric of national service and leadership. “We have lost not only loyal comrades, but also exemplary patriots,” the statement read.
“Their sudden and tragic departure is an irreplaceable loss to their families, the NDC, the Government, and the entire country.”
On behalf of its leadership, members, and grassroots supporters, the NDC extended “deepest and most heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana.
In honour of the departed, the Party vowed to uphold the values they stood for — patriotism, selflessness, integrity, and commitment to nation-building.
“May their souls rest in perfect peace. May their legacy of service and sacrifice continue to inspire us all,” the statement concluded.
