A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency executives from the Kusaug Traditional Area has publicly criticised former President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of neglecting the worsening security situation in Bawku.
At a press conference on Tuesday, July 15, constituency executives from Binduri, Bawku Central, Pusiga, Tempane, Zebilla, and Garu expressed deep disappointment, claiming Mahama’s silence on the recent violence has left their communities feeling abandoned.
“During the December 7th election, the Kusaug people voted not just for hope and progress, but for survival—placing their trust in the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama,” the group said. “But that trust is now dangerously eroded.”
The executives cited the July 13 attack and the alleged burning of the Bawku Naba’s statue as examples of the escalating crisis. They accused Mahama of failing to show leadership at a time when the Kusaug people need decisive intervention.
“We are at a point where our own people see us as enablers of a system that has betrayed them completely. We refuse to continue risking our lives and integrity in the name of a government that appears to have no respect for our people,” the executives declared.
They warned that without immediate and principled action from Mahama, the party’s grassroots support in the region would collapse.
“We cannot defend what has become indefensible. The people of Kusaug have reached their limit,” they concluded.
The statement marks a rare and bold rebuke from party insiders in the region and signals growing frustration over the handling of the long-standing Bawku conflict.
