2024 Ghana Elections: National Election Security Taskforce engages EC on measures to strengthen security during polls
As the December 7 general elections approach, the National Election Security Taskforce, led by the Ghana Police Service, is taking proactive steps to ensure a safe and secure voting environment. In a recent meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC), the task force discussed comprehensive measures to bolster security during the polls.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, indicated that their visitation was to listen to the EC on ensuring absolute security ahead of the December 7 elections and assessing their current efforts. He emphasized the need to improve their strategies to ensure peace and stability during the elections.
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah, shared positive insights on the recent voter registration exercise. “The registration exercise has been very successful. As a result of a robust security system, no eligible voter was denied registration. Conflicts were minimized in this registration exercise compared to the previous one. We’ve learned many lessons and we’re poised. The 1st to 3rd of August is for the mop-up exercise to allow eligible first-timers to enroll on the register. We are poised to conduct and undertake fair, credible, and transparent elections,” she stated.
