BLG SOCIAL YOUTH ACCOUNTABILITY

Madam Agnes Anamoo, the Nabdam District Chief Executive (DCE), has called on members of the Youth Parliament of the District to hold duty bearers accountable, to advance development in the area.

She said, “The youth Parliament is meant to give young men and women the opportunity to hold duty bearers like me and others accountable, and I urge you to make an impact out of the opportunity given to you”.

The DCE made the remarks when she addressed the youth and other stakeholders at the inaugural ceremony of the youth parliament in the district.

The Inauguration of the Youth Parliament was a collaboration between the National Youth Authority (NYA) and the District Assembly with funding support from the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project.

It aimed at giving a voice to communities and offering the youth a platform to be part of decision-making at the local level while empowering them to hold leaders accountable.

Madam Anamoo noted that the inauguration of the youth parliament was the first of its kind, and the youth must cease the opportunity to create an impact by deliberating on relevant issues that would benefit them and their peers.

“Let me also use this opportunity to challenge noble members of the first Parliament of the Nabdam District to leave behind a remarkable record that will serve as an excellent precedent for future youth parliamentarians to emulate”, she added.

Mr Francis Takyi-Koranten, the Upper East Regional Director of the NYA, indicated that the inauguration of the Nabdam District Youth Parliament marked a significant step towards engaging the youth in shaping their destinies.

He said the youth had an opportunity to forge a strong legacy of youth leadership, advocacy, and responsibility that would benefit not only the current generation but generations to come.

Mr Peter Philosopher Atsina, the District Youth Director, encouraged the youth to seize the opportunity to work together to create a future in which youth engagement would not only be encouraged but cherished.

He expressed gratitude to the Management of the SOCO Project Fund, the Nabdam District Assembly, and all other stakeholders for their support for the inauguration, adding that it was a step in the right direction to provide essential leadership skills to the youth.

Mr Romeo Asina Abenaba, the Speaker of the Youth Parliament, reiterated that the youth parliament was non-partisan and would serve as a platform that would enable them to discuss issues affecting communities and bring forth such problems to the duty bearers to be addressed.

He called for support from all and sundry to facilitate the sittings of the Youth Parliament.
