Vice President, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has condemned the acts of violence that occurred during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.
The rerun was marred by violent disruptions, media watchdogs and election observers have warned of a dangerous trend of rising hostility toward journalists in Ghana’s democratic space.
In a post shared on Facbook, while congratulating Ewurabena Aubynn for what she described as a “decisive victory,” the Vice President expressed concern over the disturbances that marred parts of the electoral exercise.
“We also witnessed some unfortunate incidents at that election,” she stated.
“While it is good to be interested in the direction our country is taking, we should not allow our passion to devolve into violence.”
She stressed the sanctity of human life, calling on all political actors and supporters to embrace peaceful participation in future elections.
“Human life is precious,” Prof Opoku-Agyemang emphasised. “Let us get to a place where elections are, by default, orderly and even ordinary events.”
The Vice President called for peace and unity, wishing all Ghanaians a peaceful weekend and invoking divine blessings on the nation.
