President John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to serving the nation with integrity, stressing that he and members of his government are dedicated to the country’s progress rather than seeking personal enrichment.

Reflecting on the promises made during his previous meetings with the clergy, Mr Mahama emphasised the decisive actions taken in his first 120 days in office to set the country on a path toward progress and prosperity.

“God has guided my steps to this stage, and I believe he will continue to guide my steps to make a success of the responsibilities he has given me,” he said.

Addressing the clergy on Friday, February 28, Mr Mahama recalled assuring Ghanaians of his dedication to improving governance should he be entrusted with leadership. With the election now behind him, he reiterated his commitment to fulfilling those promises.

President Mahama pointed to the steps already taken in his administration to foster growth and strengthen the nation’s leadership.

“Now that he [God] has done that, I stand here today to reaffirm that promise. Already, within the first 120 days of my presidency, we have taken very decisive steps to implement key policies that will steer Ghana toward the progress and prosperity we all seek,” he stated.

Mr Mahama highlighted his pledge to ensure a streamlined and efficient government. In his ongoing efforts to lead by example, he vowed to limit the number of ministers to no more than 60, aiming for a more effective and cohesive leadership structure.

“One of my first major decisions was to live by example in the area of governance so I should keep my word. I pledged to appoint not more than 60 ministers and ensure an efficient and effective government, and I have kept that promise,” Mr Mahama said.

With the cabinet now in place, President Mahama emphasised the ongoing process of forming an extended government.

He underscored that the focus would be on assembling a team dedicated to national service, rather than personal interests.

“I am steadily forming the extended government ensuring that we have a team that is committed to national service, rather than to personal gain,” he assured.
