The Queen Mother of the Mankessim Traditional Area, Nana Ama Amissah III, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama following her recent appointment to the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Nana Ama Amissah also expressed appreciation for the trust reposed in her, committing to serve the nation with diligence and integrity alongside her fellow board members.

She thanked the Chief of Mankessim, Nana Amanfo Adu VI for his unwavering guidance and the people of Mankessim for their support.

“To serve on the Ghana GoldBod Board is to hold the luminous thread that binds the wealth and destiny of our nation.

“With unwavering honour and dedication, I accept not just a role, but a sacred mission to protect our heritage and ignite a future where prosperity shines for every Ghanaian.

“My solemn promise is to uphold this precious trust, fueling a spirit of service that will elevate our people and light the way forward.

“Together and united in purpose and passion, we will forge a legacy of brilliance and opportunity to accelerate our beloved country’s development,” she stated.

Nana Ama Amissah emphasised the Gold Board’s strategic role as not only in stabilising the national currency but also helping to maximise the economic benefits from Ghana’s abundant gold reserves.

She explained that the Board’s work was part of a comprehensive national strategy to reform Ghana’s gold economy, combat illicit gold trade and strengthen the country’s long-term financial resilience.

She pledged to uphold the highest standards of good governance, transparency and stakeholder engagement.

Describing her appointment as timely, she expressed her intention to leverage the position to attract meaningful investments that would drive sustainable development, create jobs and empower local communities economically in her traditional area.

As such, she urged local and foreign investors, as well as those in the Diaspora, to return home and invest in the abundant opportunities available in Mankessim to realise the town’s vision for accelerated development.

“This vision is within reach, but it requires the commitment and collaboration of all stakeholders particularly residents, government, private sector and friends near and far,” she said.

Nana Ama Amissah, further indicated that Mankessim’s natural resources, cultural heritage and vibrant trade were unique strengths that made it a promising destination for investments in mining, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure development.

“These sectors hold great potential for economic growth and job creation and will benefit both investors and the local community,” she added.

She explained that the name “Mankessim,” meaning “Oman Kese” or “big town,” reflected its status as the largest town among surrounding communities and the traditional paramountcy for all Fante-speaking people.

That, she said, was a big symbol of resilience, dominance and a shared future that must be nurtured collectively.

“Mankessim is more than just a town; it is a vibrant community rich in history, culture, and untapped potential. As someone deeply rooted in this beautiful land, I, Nana Ama Amissah, appeal to you to join hands in supporting the sustainable development of Mankessim.

“Mankessim stands at a pivotal moment in its journey. With its strategic location, hardworking people, and abundant natural resources, the town is poised to become a beacon of progress and prosperity in the Central Region and beyond,” she noted.

However, like many communities, Mankessim faces challenges such as limited infrastructure, inadequate healthcare facilities, and educational resources that require urgent attention.

Despite these challenges, Nana Ama Amissah urged unity among his people saying: “Let us come together as one family, united by a shared love and a commitment for Mankessim to its growth.

“Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities and dreams into reality. Your support today will echo for generations to come.”

“Join me in championing the development of Mankessim. Let’s build a legacy of progress, hope, and prosperity for all.”

Nana Ama Amissah III had achieved a lot including pioneering and leading the Central Region Queen Mothers Association.

She champions women’s empowerment through initiatives like the “Beyond Kitchen Campaign.”

She also advocates for fistula education and had facilitated correction surgeries to relieve many women victims of their predicament.

She supports education, fights child labour and trafficking and promotes African culture and moral values.

She thanked the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson among a host of others who have been pillars of support for her.
