ksi Social Muslims Durbar

Muslims have been urged to always reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Mohammed and act upon it by living in peace with one another irrespective of religion, tribe, or political differences.

Alhaji Abdul Razak Abubakar Sana, Director of AI-Qibla Charity Foundation, a Kumasi-based NGO, who made the call, said Muslims needed to inculcate the meaning of Islam in their daily lives.

They should shun away from any activity by a person or group of persons that had the potential to derail the peace of the country, especially before, during and after the December general elections.

“As Muslims, we must prove to the people that Muslims are peace loving individuals”, he stated a day’s Peace durbar organized by the NGO to sensitize Muslims on the need to practice healthy utterances in their quest to campaign for their political parties.

The Peace durbar sought to increase public awareness and sensitization on the prevention of election-related violence in Ghanaian politics, and to ensure peaceful and credible 2024 elections by promoting trust among members in the Muslim communities.

It also aimed at creating awareness of election-related laws and regulations and the penalties for breaches, including the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019 (Act 999), to safeguard the security and safety of citizens and communities from the threats of election-related violence.

Alhaji Sana called on Muslims to have a good understanding of the various rules and laws governing the elections and abide by them as they went to the polling centres to cast their votes peacefully.

Mr Francis Osei Nsiah, Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), who took participants through some basic principles of the work of the Commission, encouraged positive virtues such as tolerance, love for neighbour, transparency and accountability among them.

He said, transparency and accountability would go a long way to remove mistrust and stereotypes that usually divided the people, especially during elections.

He assured the Muslims and stakeholders at the gathering that, the EC was committed to ensuring credible elections.
