Muntaka hails fallen aircrew as ‘very professional and competent'

Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the three military personnel who tragically lost their lives in Wednesday’s helicopter crash, describing them as consummate professionals who executed their duties with discipline, calmness, and respect.

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, were among the high-profile victims including two cabinet ministers, Dr Edward Omane Boamah (Minister for Defence) and Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation).

Also among the deceased were Muniru Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, Deputy NADMO Director-General; and Samuel Sarpong, the Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Kumasi mayor.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, August 11, the Minister shared his personal connection with the entire team, recalling multiple official missions during which they had flown him to various parts of the country.

“In all eight, interestingly, I have had an encounter with each of them,” he said.

“The team including Squadron Leader Anala flew me to Tamale, then to Kumasi, and back to Accra. They flew me to Assin Fosu twice, and also to Ankaful.”

Reflecting on his experiences with the airmen, the Minister emphasised their consistent display of excellence.

“I am very conversant and familiar with them,” he said. “They are very professional, very calm guys, and very respectful.”
