MTN signs $2m deal to sponsor four Ghana national teams until 2027

MTN Ghana has signed a two-year partnership with the Ghana Football Association worth $2 million to become the headline sponsor of four male and female national teams.

The deal marks a shift from the agreement signed before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which was also valued at $2 million but covered only the Black Stars.

The new agreement, signed on Thursday at MTN Ghana’s Head Office in Accra, includes the Black Queens, the Black Satellites (U20), and the Black Starlets (U17), in addition to the Black Stars.

GFA President Kurt Okraku and MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett signed the documents for the partnership, which runs until 2027.

“Football is a passion that connects the whole country, and MTN is proud to be part of the journey to take our teams to greater heights,” Blewett said.

Okraku remarked, “This investment by MTN would ensure that these young boys, Black Queens, and Satellites would have the best of preparations that would put them in the competitive mood for the big championships.

“The biggest challenge of the full association has been solved by MTN. Most often, I don’t really tell my story, but you need to occupy this seat for two days or one day to fully understand the problems that we go through in bringing talents like the Starlets up to become the John Paintsils and the Fatau Daudas. It’s not easy.”

Present at the ceremony were GFA Executive Council members, Black Stars technical staff John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda, and MTN Ghana executives.

The Black Stars, who missed out on the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, lead Group I in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and return to action in September.

The Black Queens recently won bronze at the 2024 Women’s AFCON and will aim for a stronger showing in next year’s tournament.
