MTN Ghana has once again reaffirmed its commitment to saving lives through its annual “Season of Love, Save a Life” blood donation campaign.

This year’s Volta Region edition was hosted at Kpando Senior High School, with the event spearheaded by the Blood Programs Department of Ho Teaching Hospital.

The initiative, which has been running for over eleven years, is part of MTN Ghana Foundation’s broader health-focused projects.

The campaign aims to restock blood banks across the country, addressing the critical shortage of blood in health facilities.

The event witnessed the presence of key figures, including Mr. Mawuli Katahena, MTN Ghana’s Team Lead for Volta and Oti, who emphasized the importance of blood donation.

He highlighted that as a telecommunications company committed to community well-being, MTN sees blood donation as a vital humanitarian effort.

Regional Blood Programs Organizer, Mr. Phanuel Mordzifa, expressed gratitude to MTN for its continued support in addressing blood shortages.

He noted that most blood donations typically come from second-cycle institutions, making MTN’s involvement crucial in supplementing Ghana Health Service’s efforts.

He encouraged other organizations to emulate MTN by supporting blood donation initiatives.

By the end of the event, 111 students, both male and female, had successfully donated blood. To appreciate their contributions, donors were treated to hot meals, water, and beverages.

MTN Save a Life 2025: A Nationwide Impact

The broader MTN Save a Life campaign, held annually on February 14, is a flagship initiative of the MTN Ghana Foundation.

Since its inception in 2011, the campaign has collected over 29,000 units of blood, significantly supporting the National Blood Service and various regional blood banks.

This year’s campaign is expected to be the most impactful yet, with 42 designated bleeding centers across all 16 regions of Ghana.

MTN aims to collect over 6,100 units of blood in its highest target to date.

The exercise will involve students, corporate entities, and members of the public, further expanding the initiative’s reach.

Why Blood Donation Matters
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), blood transfusions save millions of lives annually. However, Ghana continues to struggle with meeting WHO’s recommended minimum of 10 blood units per 1,000 people.

The MTN Save a Life campaign is designed to bridge this gap by encouraging voluntary blood donation.

Health officials stress that a steady blood supply is essential for surgeries, accident victims, pregnant women, and cancer patients.

Regular donations not only ensure blood availability but also create a culture of communal support and responsibility.

How to Participate
Ghanaians interested in contributing to this life-saving cause can visit any of the designated centers on February 14, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

In Accra, donations can be made at MTN House, Presec Legon, Accra Academy, Accra High School, and other locations. Other regions will host the exercise in universities, senior high schools, and hospitals.

Eligible donors must be between the ages of 17 and 60 and meet the required health screening standards.

Donors will receive free health checkups, blood donation cards, and refreshments. Additionally, regular blood donors with certificates may receive priority assistance if they or their family members require transfusions in the future.

A Call to Action
MTN Ghana is urging the public to demonstrate love and solidarity by participating in this noble cause. The exercise not only replenishes blood banks but also reassures healthcare workers that essential resources are available.

As Ghana continues its efforts to improve healthcare delivery, initiatives like the “Save a Life” campaign remain indispensable. By joining hands to donate blood, individuals can make a lasting impact, one unit at a time.
