MTN Ghana supports Ada Asafotufiami Festival with GH₵32,000

Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to cultural preservation and community development with a GH₵32,000 donation to support the 88th Ada Asafotufiami Festival.

The presentation, which took place at a short ceremony in Ada, saw MTN hand over a cheque of GH₵30,000, MTN airtime worth GH₵2,000, and a drinks hamper to the Ada Traditional Council.

The donation was made by the Regional Sales Manager for MTN Ghana, Francis Gyan, who led the company’s delegation to pay homage to the Paramount Chief of Ada, Nene Kabu Abram Akuaku III, the elders, and the Festival Planning Committee.

Mr. Gyan, in his remarks, noted that the Ada Asafotufiami Festival has over the decades remained a powerful symbol of unity, valor, and heritage — rooted in the warrior traditions of the Ada people.

“This year, as you celebrate the 88th edition, we join you in honoring a legacy that embraces both the old and the new, uniting generations under the banner of art and heritage,” he said.

MTN Ghana has consistently supported the Ada Asafotufiami Festival for the past 18 years, reflecting what Mr. Gyan described as the company’s “unwavering commitment to delighting customers and making their lives a whole lot brighter.”

He emphasised the importance of traditional festivals in Ghana’s cultural and economic landscape.

“We believe festivals play a vital role in preserving Ghana’s cultural identity while contributing significantly to local tourism and economic development. They provide a platform to showcase the uniqueness of our communities, promote unity, and attract visitors and investment opportunities that benefit local businesses and artisans,” he explained.

In addition to the donation, MTN announced plans to enhance the festive experience by setting up customer experience centers at key locations in Ada. These centers will provide personalized support and services to festival-goers. As part of its corporate social responsibility, the telecom company will also engage the community in education on mobile money fraud awareness and promote the use of digital tools such as the MyMTN App.

In recognition of MTN’s continuous support, Nene Obichere Agudey III, Ada State Manklalo, commended the company for its dedication to community development.

He praised MTN for being a true development partner and for consistently showing commitment to the growth and cultural vibrancy of the Ada community.

He noted that MTN’s presence and contribution over the years have brought significant improvement to both the festival and the well-being of the people.

“Our donation today reaffirms our deep appreciation for your support, patronage, and loyalty to MTN,” Mr. Gyan concluded.

“We thank you for the opportunity to be part of this cherished tradition and look forward to yet another memorable Asafotufiami.”

The Ada Asafotufiami Festival, celebrated annually in the first week of August, is one of Ghana’s most vibrant traditional festivals. It commemorates the bravery of the Ada people’s warriors and showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Dangme-speaking community through music, dance, and traditional military displays.
