MTN Ghana mourns victims of helicopter crash, urges dignity and compassion in online sharing

Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has expressed profound sorrow following the fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two Cabinet Ministers and six others on Wednesday, describing the incident as a devastating national tragedy.

In a statement issued on August 6, 2025, the company extended heartfelt condolences to President John Mahama, government, and the people of Ghana, as well as the families, friends, and colleagues of those who perished in the crash.

The victims included the Minister for Defence, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and other senior public figures and military personnel.

Reacting to the tragedy, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett made a public appeal for empathy and responsibility, particularly in how the tragedy is discussed and shared online.

“We appeal to all to honour the memories of the departed with dignity and to use their social media platforms to promote messages of hope, solidarity, and compassion,” he urged.

MTN’s call for responsible communication comes as the nation grapples with grief, and as tributes pour in from across the political, corporate, and civil spectrum.

The company’s statement reflects a growing concern about the circulation of graphic content and speculative commentary in the wake of such high-profile incidents.

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded, echoing the sentiment of a nation united in mourning.
