MTN Ghana dominates Volta Region with 1.3m subscribers, deepens community investment and network expansion

MTN Ghana has solidified its dominance in the Volta Region’s telecommunication landscape, with a remarkable 1.3 million subscribers out of an estimated 1.4 million residents with access to telephony services.

This milestone underscores MTN’s significant footprint in the region’s digital and financial connectivity, with nearly one million active Mobile Money (MoMo) users and 66 percent data penetration.

Speaking at the 2025 MTN Media and Stakeholder Forum in Ho, Senior Manager for Regional Sales (South East) Peter Bimpeh, described the figures as a strong indicator of public trust and loyalty in the MTN brand.

“These numbers reflect not just our market strength, but the love Ghanaians in the Volta Region have for MTN,” he said.

The annual forum served as a platform for MTN officials to provide updates on infrastructure development, service expansion, and socio-economic impact across the region and beyond.

Mr. Bimpeh highlighted that MTN currently supports over 12,000 MoMo agents and 9,000 merchants across the region, strengthening both formal and informal economies.

Senior Manager for Corporate Communications, Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, emphasized MTN Ghana’s broader vision beyond profits.

“Telecommunications is not just about connectivity—it’s about transforming lives and building communities,” she said. She noted that MTN Ghana reinvests a portion of its profits into society through initiatives spearheaded by the MTN Ghana Foundation.

She revealed that as of July 2025, MTN had completed 173 community projects nationwide—90 in education and 57 in health—positively impacting over five million Ghanaians.

MTN’s ongoing support for youth- and women-led SMEs, persons with disabilities, and digital literacy efforts also reinforces its commitment to economic empowerment and inclusive development.

On the technical front, Mr. George Hunakpa, Network Operations Engineer, announced a $250 million investment in nationwide network expansion and upgrades in 2025.

However, he warned that frequent cable theft and fibre damage by developers continued to disrupt service delivery. He urged the public to be vigilant and help protect telecom infrastructure.

MTN Ghana also pledged to improve its physical presence through additional community shops, with 18 currently operating in the Volta Region and more expected in Anloga, Keta, and other enclaves by the end of August.

Regional Retail Experience Manager Mawunya Agogo said hundreds more outlets are planned nationwide by the close of the year to enhance customer convenience and reduce service bottlenecks.

MTN’s blend of strong service delivery, expansive community investments, and a people-centered approach continues to position it not just as a telecommunications provider, but as a vital development partner in Ghana’s journey toward digital and socio-economic transformation.
