Morocco is asserting itself as an emerging power in Africa, thanks to remarkable economic and social progress under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, according to African Development Bank (AfDB) president Akinwumi Adesina.
In a statement to MAP, Mr. Adesina praised the Kingdom’s consistent transformation, which he said is clearly reflected in the recent Throne Day speech by King Mohammed VI. He described Morocco’s progress as both regular and coherent, backed by stable governance and forward-looking policies.
“Morocco’s strategic positioning is anchored in a clear and ambitious vision of integrated development—economic, social, and environmental,” he said.
He noted that this methodical and determined approach has positioned Morocco as one of the most advanced nations on the continent.
Citing the country’s New Development Model, Adesina highlighted its strengthened economic fundamentals, sectoral diversification, openness to global markets, and increasing integration into regional and global value chains as key indicators of Morocco’s emergence.
He pointed to the country’s industrial revival, particularly in automotive, aeronautics, and renewable energy, as a sign of growing capacity and sophistication.
These gains, he said, are underpinned by ambitious infrastructure projects and a stable macroeconomic environment, making Morocco increasingly attractive to international investors.
“Driven by the vast development projects initiated by the King, our relations with the Kingdom continue to deepen, in support of this comprehensive and inclusive progress for the benefit of the country and the Moroccan people,” Mr. Adesina concluded.
