Mintah Akandoh pays tribute to the late Dr Omane Boamah

Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash on August 6.

Speaking at the State burial on Friday, August 15, Mr Akandoh said, “The news of your passing has left me shattered. It is not just the loss of a colleague; it is the loss of a man who shaped my journey, believed in my potential, and stood by me through every season of growth.”

He described Dr Boamah as more than a political figure, calling him “a compass, steady, wise, and always pointing me toward excellence.” Reflecting on their early friendship, he added, “From the early days of our friendship, you saw something in me that I hadn’t yet seen in myself. You challenged me to think bigger, to serve deeper, and to never settle for mediocrity.”

Recalling a defining moment in his career, the Health Minister said, “I remember vividly how you encouraged me to further my education. You said, … And these words became a fire in my spirit, pushing me to pursue advanced studies and sharpen my voice in national discourse.”

Mr Akandoh referred to the late minister as his “consultant in more ways than one, always ready to review a speech, refine a policy idea, or offer quiet wisdom when the noise of politics grew loud.

He continued, “You never withheld your brilliance, and you never let me walk alone. In moments of doubt, you reminded me of my purpose. In moments of triumph, you reminded me to stay humble. You taught me that leadership is not about power, it’s about people,” he revealed.

Highlighting the personal bond they shared, he revealed, “Indeed, you made such a mark in my life that 12 years ago, we decided to name our youngest son after you, Kofi Omane Boamah.”

“My brother, your death has left a void that no title, no tribute, no time can fill. But your life has left a legacy that will guide mine forever. You may be gone, but you continue to live in my heart and my home. I will carry your lessons into every room I enter, every decision I make, and every young leader I mentor,” he said.

In his final farewell, the Health Minister declared, “Rest well, Dr Omane Boamah. You lived with purpose, you led with grace, and you loved with sincerity. May the angels receive you. May the heavens remember your name. And may your soul find eternal peace in the presence of the God you served so faithfully. Farewell, my brother. Your light still shines.”
