The minority caucus in Parliament has accused the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine of abusing his office by ordering searches, arrests, and conducting investigations into former government appointees.
The group claim that the current actions of national security operatives ordered by the AG undermine the constitutional mandate of the office.
Addressing journalists in Parliament on Monday, March 24, Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, called on the Attorney General to immediately halt such actions.
According to Ahmed Shaib, photographs circulating on social media show signs of destruction and ransacking.
Ahmed Shaib raised several questions regarding the legality and conduct of the raid, particularly questioning why, if a court-issued warrant truly existed, it was not presented to Dr Addisson before or during the operation.
“Brute force was used to overpower his private security” and why “the CCTV camera was dismantled and taken away.”
“Transparency is a hallmark that ensures lawful enforcement,” Ahmed Shaib continued.
He has raised serious concerns about the conduct of a recent raid, questioning the legality and intent behind the operation.
“The failure to follow basic procedures casts doubt on the legality and intent of the operation. No amount of legal contortion or public relations spin can undo the facts,” he queried.
He added, “If indeed a court-issued warrant truly existed, why was it not presented to Dr Addisson before or during the raid?”
The Minority is also demanding that an apology must be rendered to the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison for the search at his residence.
