The Minerals Commission has hosted a high-level technical delegation from the Tanzania Mining Commission for a week-long bilateral exchange programme aimed at strengthening cooperation and promoting mutual learning in mining sector governance.
The delegation was officially received at the Commission’s headquarters by the Chief Executive Officer, Isaac Tandoh, together with members of the Commission’s executive leadership.
During the welcome session, Mr Tandoh highlighted the importance of peer-to-peer learning among African countries and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to transparent, efficient and sustainable mineral resource management.
He noted that local content development and community participation remain central pillars of Ghana’s mining policy.
“Our sector reforms are centred on maximising in-country value, ensuring environmental stewardship and promoting responsible mining,” Mr Tandoh said.
He outlined the core mandate of the Minerals Commission, stressing the strategic use of technology to strengthen regulatory oversight, enhance licensing transparency and improve compliance monitoring.
The visiting delegation, led by Dr Theresia C. Numbi, Chairperson of Tanzania’s Local Content Committee, attended a series of technical presentations delivered by various departments of the Commission.
The sessions focused on Ghana’s legal and regulatory framework, approaches to implementing local content and local participation policies, the digitised Mining Cadastre Administration System (MCAS), and efforts to formalise the artisanal and small-scale mining sub-sector.
The programme, scheduled from January 19 to 23, will also include mine site visits and engagements with other key institutions beyond Accra.
Both Ghana and Tanzania expressed confidence that the exchange will strengthen bilateral ties and advance shared goals in local content regulation, compliance and sustainable mining governance across the continent.
Also present at the engagement were Madam Victoria Awuni, Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Policy Planning, Mineral Titles and Local Content, and Mr Maxwell Klu, Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for Small-Scale Mining and Industrial Minerals.
