Millennium Teens mark 25th anniversary with donation to child cancer, neonatal patients at Korle Bu

The Class of 2000 Year Group of North Ridge Lyceum, popularly known as Millennium Teens, has donated cash, consumables and medical equipment to support child cancer and neonatal patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s Department of Child Health.

The gesture formed part of activities to commemorate the group’s 25th anniversary and aimed at providing relief and encouragement to patients and their families.

The group presented GH¢25,000 each to the Paediatric Oncology Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), along with medical supplies worth GH¢15,000, including diapers, syringes, blood pressure machines, gloves, detergents and tissues. Toys, party bags and stationery sets were also distributed to the children to lift their spirits.

To recognise the efforts of frontline health professionals, Millennium Teens further made a cash presentation to nurses and caregivers at both units in appreciation of their dedication to vulnerable patients.

Spokesperson Anna Betsylee Agyepong said the group was motivated by a sense of duty to give back after 25 years.

“We know the challenges some families face, especially when babies are born pre-term. The least we can do is support parents and children to ensure survival and give them hope,” she said, urging the public to extend similar acts of kindness.

Head of the Paediatric Oncology Department, Dr. Ernestina Schandorf, expressed gratitude, describing the donation as timely. She also appealed for public support to complete a 40-bed ward for child cancer patients, a project stalled since March due to lack of funds.

“The current ward is full, and some patients are still waiting in the emergency room to be admitted,” she said.
