The Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Ltd., lawyer Kale Cesar, has issued a two-week ultimatum to encroachers illegally occupying the company’s terminal in Takoradi, Western Region.
During a regional tour of Metro Mass facilities, Mr. Cesar expressed disappointment over the unlawful occupation of approximately two acres of company land by private operators and squatters.
The encroachment, he noted, is affecting operations and limiting parking space for Metro Mass buses.
“We have private operators who have trespassed on this yard. We are sending them notices and will serve evacuation letters. They have two weeks to leave,” he stated.
Lawyer Cesar said the company is engaging the Western Regional Minister and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly to facilitate the eviction process legally. Plans are underway to redevelop the terminal into a modern, functional space to better serve commuters.
The Metro Mass MD also highlighted the company’s declining fleet from about 1,000 buses at its peak to just 130 currently in operation, describing the situation as dire.
“The aim of our nationwide tour is to assess our assets, engage with staff, and understand the challenges across the country. We’re committed to resetting Metro Mass,” he added.
Part of the recovery plan includes the introduction of modern and smaller buses that can operate efficiently on urban and intercity routes.
“Metro Mass will continue to exist and serve the people of Ghana with efficient transport. Ghana deserves better,” Lawyer Cesar said.
