The renovated facility

Mawuli School, one of the country’s most prestigious second-cycle institutions, continues to reinforce its legacy of excellence as its 2000 Year Group undertakes a major renovation of one of the school’s most historic landmarks—the “White Block.”

The initiative forms part of the Group’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, held in conjunction with the school’s grand 75th anniversary, and underscores a profound commitment to preserving the heritage and values that embody the institution’s enduring spirit.

Founded in 1950 by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church under the visionary leadership of Rev. Dr. C. W. Armstrong, a Canadian missionary, Mawuli School was established to provide holistic education grounded in discipline, faith, and academic excellence.

Named Mawuli—meaning God Lives in Eʋe—the school is among the first secondary institutions in the then Trans-Volta Togoland, later Volta Region, and has since nurtured generations of leaders distinguished by the school’s timeless motto: Head, Heart, and Hand.

The “White Block”, one of the school’s earliest and most cherished structures, holds profound sentimental value for thousands of alumni. Once a cornerstone of academic and personal development, the building had deteriorated over the years due to age and weather.

The 2000 Year Group, driven by nostalgia and a sense of stewardship, chose to restore the building as their legacy project—an enduring symbol of gratitude to the institution that shaped their formative years.

Valued at GHC 300,000, the renovation was executed in three phases—covering full structural repair, roofing and painting, modernisation of classroom furniture, and interior upgrades to align with contemporary educational standards.

The project embodies three key objectives: preservation of heritage, enhancement of learning conditions, and inspiration for future generations of Mawulians.

The official handing-over ceremony for the refurbished “White Block” will take place on Sunday, 26th October 2025, at the Forecourt of the Building on the Mawuli School campus in Ho.

The event is expected to draw a cross-section of dignitaries, including school authorities, staff, students, alumni, community leaders, sponsors, and invited guests. The celebration will not only mark the physical transformation of the building but also affirm the collective spirit of service and excellence that defines the Mawuli alumni community.

In addition to the renovation, the 2000 Year Group has planned a series of outreach and commemorative activities. On Friday, 24th October 2025, members will visit the Ho Central Female Prisons, where they will make a charitable donation and interact with inmates and prison officials.

This act of compassion underscores the Group’s belief in service beyond celebration—reaching out to the marginalised and reaffirming the importance of community support and reintegration.

The weekend will also feature participation in the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU) 75th Anniversary Float, a 90s-themed social night, and the formal handing-over of the renovated White Block—the centrepiece of their 25th Anniversary Legacy Project.

Through this initiative, the Mawuli School 2000 Year Group stands as a beacon of continuity and gratitude, demonstrating that true Mawulians never forget their roots. The restored “White Block” now stands renewed—an enduring monument to faith, learning, and service, and a tribute to the timeless legacy of Mawuli School.
