Mawuli School celebrates 75 years with commitment to growth and alumni engagement

The 75th Anniversary of Mawuli School was marked with an inspiring address by the Global President of the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU), Richard Nyarko, who underscored the vital role of alumni in the continued development of the institution.

Speaking to a gathering of alumni, students, staff, and well-wishers, Mr Nyarko highlighted the dedication and sacrifices of past generations, emphasising that the legacy of the school must be nurtured and advanced by its alumni. “We draw inspiration from this immense sacrifice and commit ourselves to uplifting the fortunes of this great institution,” he said. “As a well-organised association with vibrant chapters across Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Kirkuk, Sumeru, Sabana, and more, we remain united in purpose.”

Mr Nyarko outlined the two primary goals of the global alumni body: strengthening connections among alumni to leverage resources, networks, and influence for mutual welfare, and channelling these efforts toward enhancing the quality and infrastructure of Mawuli School. “We have all come together as one global union to achieve these objectives,” he added.

Highlighting tangible achievements, the Global President revealed that a four-unit, two-bedroom staff apartment had been commissioned and handed over during the celebration. Valued at $8,000,000, the project was completed at $740,000 — a testament to the efficiency and dedication of the alumni network. “We are the only ones who can make Mawuli School better. Let us commit our resources, our influence, and our connections to this mission,” he urged.

Beyond infrastructure, Mr Nyarko emphasised the importance of academic excellence, noting that Mawuli’s long-term success depends not only on physical facilities but also on maintaining high academic standards and competitiveness. Alumni efforts so far include connecting the water supply across the campus, renovating classrooms, refurbishing furniture, and enhancing the overall learning environment. “Next year, we are going to focus strongly on academics,” he said.

The celebration also included heartfelt recognition of the volunteers and coordinators who made the event possible. Mr Nyarko acknowledged coordinators from the UK, US, Australia, and various chapters, as well as teams responsible for events, branding, and fundraising. “They have worked tirelessly and made tremendous sacrifices to make this celebration possible. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of them,” he said.

Adding a personal touch, he paid tribute to his former headmaster, Chato Akolo, inviting alumni to join him in singing a nostalgic school song that had been a tradition every Monday morning during assemblies.

In closing, Mr Nyarko expressed confidence in the collective efforts of the alumni community to continue driving Mawuli School toward greater achievements. “Together, we are going to make this happen,” he affirmed.

The 75th Anniversary of Mawuli School stands as a testament to the enduring spirit, dedication, and unity of its alumni, students, and staff — a celebration not only of the school’s history but also of its promising future.
