The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu, has expressed strong confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will struggle to replicate its electoral performance from the 2024 general elections when Ghanaians head to the polls in 2028.

In an interview with Citi FM on Wednesday, August 13, Mr Konadu said the outcome of the next elections would be determined by the NDC’s record in office and their success, or otherwise, in delivering on the promises made to voters.

According to him, the NDC’s 2024 results were less about a surge in popularity and more about the disillusionment of some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters, who chose to stay away from the polls rather than vote against their party.

“The point is that we have people who, from the last election, stayed out and did not vote. You’re talking about 1.7 million voters who did not turn out based on the last election we had in 2020, and that figure did not reflect in our votes in 2024,” he explained.

Mr Konadu added that this silent bloc of voters represented a “critical mass” who withheld their votes in 2024 but did not transfer their support to the opposition.

“The votes the NDC had and the number of seats they won even surprised many people. Those numbers, I can assure you, will not be repeated in 2028,” he asserted.
