A violent clash over a missing pumping machine used in illegal mining has left one dead and another seriously injured in the Sui Electoral Area of the Sehwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region.

The incident occurred after a man identified only as Vincent, allegedly confronted two individuals- Prince Armah and another known as Pizzaro – over the suspected theft of his mining equipment and some quantity of gold dust, commonly referred to as “black”.

Eyewitnesses who spoke on condition of anonymity say the confrontation quickly escalated into violence, with Vincent reportedly pulling a gun and opening fire. Prince Armah was shot and died on the spot, while Pizzaro sustained gunshot wounds and is currently battling for his life at the Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal Hospital.

Speaking to the media, the Assembly Member for the area, Benedict Arthur, confirmed the incident and called for calm as investigations continue.

Police have launched a manhunt for Vincent, who fled the scene and is currently on the run.

The tragic incident has thrown the community into a state of mourning, with many residents expressing shock and concern over rising tensions linked to illegal mining activities in the area.
