General Secretary of the United Party (UP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has praised the current leadership style of President John Dramani Mahama, noting a marked transformation in his approach to governance since returning to power.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Thursday, October 16, Mr. Buaben Asamoa said the President’s current demeanour and decision-making reflect maturity, deliberation, and a commitment to sustainable change.
“Frankly, everybody looking at the President’s demeanour will acknowledge that he has changed. This is not President Mahama of 10 years ago. He has matured. He’s deliberate in his decision-making, and he’s trying to plan. There’s no doubt about it that he has changed. His governance style has changed,” he stated.
Mr. Asamoa observed that while 10 months in office is too short to assess the full impact of the President’s policies, the early signs point to a deliberate and inclusive approach.
“Now it is up to him to stamp his authority and bring about sustainable transformation. Sustainable transformation cannot be assessed in 10 months. All you can do is make appointments, develop action plans, and try to deliver on some key issues,” he explained.
He acknowledged ongoing challenges such as illegal mining but maintained that President Mahama’s leadership reflects “marked maturity” and “a calm, engaging style” that prioritises competence over political loyalty.
According to him, the President’s appointments also demonstrate an effort to reach beyond partisan lines by including experts from civil society and other professional backgrounds.
“He has shown a certain capacity to engage people. He has changed and I like the current style he has. It really shows that staying out of power for 10 years, he studied and he’s learned,” Mr. Asamoa added.
