Damango Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Abu Jinapor, has commended former President John Mahama for his swift directive to investigate the suspicious flights linked to money laundering and drug trafficking.

In an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, the Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee expressed support for the President’s actions, stating, “I believe all Ghanaians supported the directive because it was in the right direction. When it comes to the drug trade, it is a highly sophisticated cartel that can beat the government multiple times without any suspicion or knowledge.”

Rev. Ntim Fordjour sparked public debate after alleging that two flights AirMed flight NH23AM and Cavok Air private jet Antonov AN 12 B—landed in Ghana between March 20 and March 25, 2025, allegedly carrying suspected cocaine and a large sum of cash.

Jinapor added that it is possible the President was unaware of the situation until Rev. Fordjour made the matter public, given the nature of the drug trade.

“Some people manage to evade arrest or get out of custody, so it is even possible the President wasn’t aware until Ntim Fordjour came public,” he explained.

In response to Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who dismissed the probe as a waste of time, Jinapor questioned why the MP for Abura Asebu Kwamankes would reject the President’s directive.

“Felix came to dismiss the probe, stating it will be a waste of our time and that the claims were untrue, but how can you know the truth if there is no investigation?” Jinapor questioned.

The former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources stressed that a thorough investigation is essential to resolve the issue and uncover the truth.

“At the moment, there are several accounts on why the flights landed in Ghana with so many public debates, but we still do not have any comprehensive and transparent probe or report,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Twum Barimah, has urged Rev. Fordjour to cooperate with ongoing investigations.

In an interview with Joy News, Mr. Barimah emphasised that Fordjour’s cooperation would be crucial in apprehending those allegedly involved in the case.
