President John Dramani Mahama has urged members of the newly inaugurated Ghana Armed Forces Council to discharge their duties with wisdom, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to national service.

He emphasised that their role is crucial in ensuring the stability and security of the nation, as well as upholding the highest standards of professionalism within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Monday, 24th March, President Mahama highlighted the far-reaching implications of the council’s decisions on Ghana’s defence strategy and the overall well-being of the military.

He reminded the members that their mandate extends beyond administrative oversight to safeguarding the peace and stability the country has enjoyed over the years.

The President further stressed the importance of proactive leadership in addressing emerging security threats.

He noted that Ghana, like many other nations, faces evolving challenges such as terrorism, cybercrime, political instability, and climate-related security risks.

In light of this, he charged the council to remain vigilant and forward-thinking in their approach to national defence.

“The decisions you make as a council will shape the future of our Armed Forces, and it is therefore imperative that you approach this role with wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to national service,” President Mahama stated.

He reiterated that effective governance within the military is fundamental to ensuring a well-equipped and disciplined force capable of defending the nation.

President Mahama also underscored the need for collaboration between the Armed Forces Council and other national security agencies.

He stressed that inter-agency cooperation is essential in developing robust security strategies to counter both domestic and international threats.

President Mahama called on the council to uphold professionalism and fairness in their dealings to maintain public trust in the armed forces.

The President expressed confidence in the capabilities of the newly appointed council members and urged them to serve with distinction.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting the Ghana Armed Forces with the necessary resources to execute their mandate effectively.
