Mahama condemns attacks on teachers, demands justice in Kade SHS assault case

President John Mahama has condemned the recent assaults on teachers across Ghana.

He particularly expressed concern over the handling of a high-profile case involving students from Kade Senior High School.

The President made this known at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Delegates Conference, where he addressed a disturbing viral video from October 2025.

The footage showed students attacking a mathematics teacher after he reportedly prevented them from cheating during an examination.

President Mahama voiced his disappointment that despite a police report, the students faced no formal disciplinary action after their parents reached an out-of-court settlement.

He questioned the precedent set by treating a clear criminal act as a private matter.

“I saw the video of the Maths teacher being beaten because he refused to allow our students to cheat, and they had a sense of entitlement,” President Mahama stated.

“The unfortunate thing is that the matter went to the police station… and they said they settled the matter amicably. How is that? This is assault. It is criminal.”

He criticized the resolution, arguing that mere financial compensation to the teacher was insufficient for ensuring justice and deterring future violence.

“But when we inquired, the police also said the teacher was compensated, so he didn’t want to press charges anymore. At least the children should have been booked, they should have been taken through the legal process,” the President asserted.

“At least if nothing at all, they should have been bonded to be of good behavior for a period of time, and then we will believe that justice has been done.”

Concluding with a firm pledge, President Mahama aligned himself fully with the teaching profession: “As for assault on teachers, I am with you 100%, we will deal with it.”
