The quarter-finals of the 2025 Luv FM High Schools Debate lit up with intellect, intensity, and the sheer will to win among debaters.

Eight schools entered the ring, each with a dream and a voice. But at the end of the high-stakes battles, only four emerged victorious.

It all began with KNUST SHS facing Our Lady of Grace SHS on the motion: “The United Nations has failed in its mission to maintain global peace and security.” The contest was razor-sharp, with both sides delivering layered arguments. But it was KNUST SHS who edged past by a majority decision, stamping their mark as a debate team to watch.

Then came one of the most anticipated clashes. First-time contenders, Osei Adutwum SHS, versus debate giants Prempeh College on the motion: “The creation of a single currency is the only way to Africa’s Economic development.”

Osei Adutwum put up a commanding show, but Prempeh’s depth and experience sealed them a majority win. Nonetheless, Osei Adutwum exits the competition as the breakout stars of this year’s contest.

The heat didn’t cool when St. Louis Girls’ SHS met T.I. AMASS, Kumasi in debating the motion: “MMDCEs must be elected”. St. Louis delivered a clean sweep, winning by a unanimous decision. Their delivery was poised, powerful, and persuasive. All three judges agreed: they were untouchable.

Finally, Kumasi High School, the defending champions, went head-to-head with St. Hubert Seminary in a bout full of punchy rebuttals and well-structured submissions.

After an intense debate on their Motion: “ECOWAS has outlived its relevance,” Kumasi High won again by majority decision, determined to retain their title.

In debate scoring, a majority decision means two judges chose one school over the other, while a unanimous decision reflects agreement by all three judges. Both are decisive, but a unanimous win signals total dominance.

As the dust settles on the quarter-finals, four schools remain in the contest: KNUST SHS, Prempeh College, St. Louis Girls, and Kumasi High School.
