Licht Voor Het Oog, Mind-the-Gap, Ghana organise eye screening for Adzato electoral area

Licht Voor Het Oog of Holland in collaboration with Mind-the-Gap, Ghana and the Hoedoafia Family of Adzato, together with traditional leaders and the Assembly Member, organised a five-day free eye screening and general medical exercise for the Adzato Electoral Area and surrounding communities.

The programme started on Friday, October 31, 2025, and ended on Monday, November 3, 2025.

The Eye and medical screening outreach took place at the St. Gabriel R.C. Chapel in Adzato from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day.

The exercise was supported by Togbi Agbeve III, Togbi Dr. Nugble Dormenyotor I, Mr. John Hoedoafia, Dr. Gameli Hoedoafia, Mr. Eugene Zormelo, and Hon. Abraham Apetorgbor Lumor, the Assembly Member for Adzato Electoral Area.

The eye screening was undertaken by a team of Ophthalmologist from the Netherlands (Holland) facilitated by Licht Voor Het Oog.

People from Adzato and nearby villages like Klomikpota, Akplorfudzi, Amenyokorpe, Hadota, Kpordui, Sokutsime, Vorvornukorpe, Sodzi, Aflorto, Tregui, Agortoe, and Suipe took part in the screening programme.

Beyond the listed locations, the organisers also extended an open invitation to individuals from other towns and villages, showing their commitment to helping everyone who needs care, this allowed residents from as far as Achiavi, Akatsi and Alakple.

In an engagement with the founder and coordinator of Licht Voor Het Oog, Dr. Johannes Schoonhoven, said, “We are doing this because we care about people especially under served communities and its our mission to bring light to the world through fixing their sights.

“Good eye sight should be for everyone, and we are happy to help.”

He added that the collaboration with Mind-the-Gap, Ghana aims to not only meet urgent health needs but also spark long-term change eye care provision in Ghana.

Plans are underway to explore future outreach programmes, build local partnerships, and strengthen preventive care education across the district.

In a brief chat with the Founder and Coordinator of Mind-the-Gap, Ghana, he noted that “This is not a one-time event,” Dr. Gameli Kewuribe Hoedoafia emphasized.

“We are honoured to do this and would want to build something lasting, where community health becomes a shared responsibility and a regular priority.”

Residents were encouraged to always take advantage and attend the screening shessions, share the opportunity with others, and support future health initiatives in their communities.

By showing up, spreading the word, and staying informed, everyone can play a part in building a healthier Adzato Electoral area and its environs.

This kind act shows the Hoedoafia Family’s strong love for their community and their wish to make life better for others.
