Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has expressed worry over the challenges plaquing the Ghanaian music industry.

On his Facebook page, he writes that lack of appropriate policies among other things, has contributed to the current state of the Ghanaian music industry.

“It is clear that the lack of conducive policies, infrastructure, and resources have hindered our growth and potential on the international stage. We must urgently address this by improving regulatory frameworks, investing in modern infrastructure, and strengthening intellectual property rights and licensing.

To make things better, he has suggested a concerted effort by industry stakeholders to effect desired changes needed for the growth of the industry.

“It is time for us to work together to create an enabling environment that attracts major global investments and propels our music industry to unprecedented heights, contributing to our national identity and economy,” he writes.

“Let us rally together as stakeholders in the Ghanaian music industry and collaborate to open the doors of opportunity for our industry. By any means necessary, we need to put in efforts to make sure our music is heard globally as Ghanaians,” he adds.

This is not the first time the dancehall artiste has proffered solutions to the industry’s problems. In 2021, during his ‘State of the Industry Address’, he highlighted similar concerns.

He proposed that music stakeholders should come together to settle on a unique music genre that could sell Ghana globally, he said major and popular annual entertainment events should be decentralized, and advised Ghanaian musicians to take the business aspect of the crafts seriously.

Shatta Wale also said Ghanaians should set an agenda to play 90% Ghanaians music and 10% foreign.

He advised powers that be to use music as a tourism tool to promote the country.

Lastly, he said if the state could spend 10% of the sports budget on music, it would set the music industry on the road to global heights.
