Let's consider a digitised system for recruitment - Bosome Freho MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has called for the adoption of a digital system to manage recruitment into the country’s various security services.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP argued that in an era of rapid technological advancement, the nation must leverage digital platforms to enhance transparency and efficiency in recruitment processes.

“We must, as a country, begin to look at a comprehensive digitalisation system that will enable us to recruit our young men without allowing them to go and queue every year as we are seeing. Mr. Speaker, some of these processes can be digitised so that we will reduce the hardship, the burden, and frustration that our young people go through.”

His call follows Wednesday’s tragic incident at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, which occurred during the Ghana Armed Forces’ 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh stressed that a well-structured online system would help prevent such occurrences in future and ensure a fair and merit-based selection process across all security agencies.

The Day Hope Dies In A Queue

On Wednesday, November 12, six job seekers died, with several others injured, following a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra while in queue for the screening exercise.

According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces, the tragedy occurred around 6:20 a.m. when an unexpected surge of applicants breached security protocols and forced their way through the gates ahead of the scheduled screening.

In the Ashanti Region, the Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has also confirmed that five young people sustained various injuries during a stampede at a similar recruitment screening exercise held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on the same day.

Following the tragedy, President John Mahama has directed the Ghana Armed Forces to suspend the nationwide recruitment exercise.
