Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has issued a strong warning to individuals encroaching on lands around the Borteyman Sports Complex, urging them to vacate immediately.
The Minister gave the directive during a visit to the facility to inspect ongoing works and assess its current state. The Borteyman Sports Complex was one of the major venues used during the 2023 All-African Games hosted in Ghana.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Kofi Adams emphasised that the land is reserved strictly for the development of sports infrastructure and must not be taken over for private use.
“Whatever arrangements anybody is having, they should leave this space,” he said. “This land belongs to Ghana, and it’s under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the sole purpose of developing sports facilities that benefit all of us.”
The Minister also called on Ghanaians from all walks of life to support the vision of building a strong foundation for sports development in the country.
“Which part of the world doesn’t need sports infrastructure?” he asked. “We must all, regardless of our background or tribe, come together to protect and promote sports development in Ghana.”
His comments come amid growing concerns about land encroachment at the complex, which threatens to derail long-term plans to expand and upgrade the facility for future national and international competitions.
