The Law Christians Fellowship (LCF) of the Ghana School of Law has undertaken a significant prison outreach to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, bringing relief, encouragement and legal awareness to inmates. The outreach, held on Saturday, 21 March 2026, was themed “Hope Behind Bars: Restoring Lives, Renewing Hope.”

The initiative aimed to provide both material support and human connection to inmates, while also exposing law students to the realities within the correctional system. It formed part of LCF’s broader commitment to service, compassion and societal impact.

The programme was spearheaded by Rev. Enoch Appiah Num, whose leadership and dedication were central to its success. He was supported by Pastor Eli Kofi Agbana, Esq., who also played a key role in engaging both participants and inmates throughout the exercise.

Over 100 participants, including Part I and Part II students of the Ghana School of Law as well as young lawyers, took part in the outreach. Following a session of exhortation, participants were divided into groups and engaged directly with inmates. These interactions created a platform for listening, encouragement and the provision of basic legal guidance where necessary.

Some of the encounters revealed concerning gaps within the justice system, particularly the lack of access to legal representation for certain inmates. These experiences highlighted the need for renewed attention to legal aid and access to justice, while reinforcing the idea that the prison system should serve not only as a tool for punishment but also as a pathway for reform and rehabilitation.

The outreach was further supported by generous donations received in both cash and in kind. Items distributed included medical supplies, sachet and bottled water, disinfectants, toiletries, foodstuffs, clothing and cash donations. These were presented to both the male and female sections of the prison, providing much-needed relief to inmates.

The Legal Green Association (LGA), a selfless body at the Ghana School of Law, also supported the initiative through active participation and contributions in cash and in kind.

Executives and members of the Association, led by its Leader, Festus Matey, were present and actively involved in the outreach.

Also present in solidarity with the LCF’s commendable initiative were the SRC Treasurer, Jackson Bright Kitanya-Dabanyi, and the Speaker of Congress, Ebenezer Sefa-Kissi.

Organisers expressed profound gratitude to all donors whose generosity made the programme a success. They noted that the contributions, whether financial or material, had a meaningful impact in restoring hope and dignity to the inmates.

Appreciation was also extended to all participants and volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to the outreach, embodying the true spirit of service. Officers at the prison facility were equally commended for their professionalism and cooperation, which ensured the smooth execution of the programme.

The outreach stands as a testament to the impact of faith-driven and student-led initiatives in addressing societal challenges, while shaping a generation of legal professionals committed not only to the law but also to humanity.
