Francis-Xavier Sosu, the ranking member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, is calling out on the Director of the Ghana School of Law to resign.
According to him, the General Legal Council should be abolished.
The Council, according to the Madina MP, has outlived its usefulness due to recent developments in the country’s legal education arena.
“As we speak now, the Director of the Law School must be resigning…It seems the General Legal Council, as is currently constituted, is made up of very old archaic mentality people whose goal is to maintain the status quo,”
He believes that this is the best way to recruit new leadership with progressive ideas to address the issues afflicting Ghana’s legal education system.
When the National Association of Law Students (NALS) took to the streets of Accra to protest the failures of the Ghana School of Law entrance exams, Mr Sosu made these remarks.
The GLC is being blamed by the disgruntled applicants for their inability to obtain admittance following the implementation of a new points-based system.
Francis Xavier-Sosu, addressing on the margins of the protest, voiced his displeasure for the situation that led to the demonstration.
He blamed the Ghana Law Commission (GLC) and the Ghana School of Law.
