Kwame Opoku late penalty secured another FA Cup title for Asante Kotoko as the Porcupine Warriors beat Golden Kick 2-1 on Sunday night.

It was his second of night, sealing a 10th title for Abdul Karim Zito’s boys.

The win seals a record-extending tenth FA Cup title for the Porcupine Warriors and secures their return to continental football in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Kotoko took control early in the contest, with their high pressing and energy unsettling the lower-tier side. The breakthrough arrived in the 17th minute, when Lord Amoah’s surging run won a free-kick, which he delivered with precision for Opoku to steer home the opener.

Golden Kick, however, showed they were not overawed by the occasion. They weathered Kotoko’s early dominance and struck back with a moment of brilliance in the 32nd minute — Bless Ege bending a stunning free-kick past the outstretched hand of Frederick Asare to bring parity.

The second half provided end-to-end action, with both sides showing ambition. Kotoko looked nervy in phases, nearly punished for a lapse at the back, but regained control through substitute Emmanuel Antwi, who steadied the midfield and pushed the team forward.

Golden Kick, despite their spirited effort, missed a golden opportunity in the 84th minute when Amidu Acquah failed to convert from close range.

Then came the turning point. In the 90th minute, Kwame Opoku was brought down in the box following a collision with goalkeeper Kelvin Saaba — a decision that sparked protests from the Golden Kick bench. The Kotoko striker, unfazed, stepped up and dispatched the penalty with confidence to seal the win.

The final whistle sparked wild celebrations among the Kotoko faithful, as the club capped a turbulent season with silverware and the promise of continental action.

For Golden Kick, it was heartbreak, but their spirited run to the final won them admiration — a reminder of the magic the FA Cup continues to produce.
