The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta on Wednesday, November 15, stated that the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has experienced a significant boost in revenue, generating an average of GH¢1 million per month since its revitalisation in July of this year.
The surge in income is attributed to a notable increase in visitation, rising from 98,000 visitors in 2019 to approximately 150,000 at present, marking a substantial departure from the meagre GH¢30,000 per month.
The Finance Minister shared these insights during the presentation of the 2024 Budget Statement, named the “Nkunim Budget,” on the floor of Parliament in Accra.
He recounted that since its inception in 1993, the Park reached its highest visitation record of 98,000 visitors in 2019 during the Year of Return.
Following a recent facelift in July, the number of visitors surged to around 150,000 within four months, leading to a remarkable increase in monthly revenues from GH¢30,000 to an average of GH¢1 million.
Highlighting Ghana’s status as the preferred tourist destination in the sub-region, Mr Ofori Atta outlined plans to cultivate a vibrant night economy and tourism.
To achieve this, designated spaces in cities will be established to attract a consistent flow of domestic and international tourists.
“As we champion the ‘December in GH’ initiatives, we will also focus on improving security and enhancing lighting infrastructure. A Task Force, comprising both public regulators and private sector actors, has already been set up to drive the night economy initiative through a public-private partnership arrangement,” he affirmed.
