Kumawu tragedy: MP commiserates with families, urges national support

Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Ernest Yaw Anim, has commiserated with the families of tragic road accident that claimed the lives of four persons, injuring five others, at Kumawu on Saturday January 17, 2026.

The accident involving a construction truck transporting sand from Abotanso to a project site in Kumawu, lost control and crashed into a hairdressing saloon and a storey building resulting in the loss of lives, causing extensive damage to properties.

Mr Anim, who is also the chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, visited both the accident scene and the Hospital on Sunday morning to interact with victims.

He said he was devastated by the scale of the tragedy and explained that the visit was to personally assess the situation, interact with victims receiving treatment, and console the affected families during their moment of grief.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of this unfortunate incident.

He emphasised the importance of unity in moments of crisis and pledged to continue working closely with traditional authorities, local leaders, and relevant stakeholders to ensure that the affected families receive the necessary support.
