In preparation for the anticipated royal visit of His Majesty King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Eswatini, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a massive clean-up exercise scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025.
The clean-up operation, according to a press statement issued by the KMA on Wednesday, June 18, is part of efforts to ensure the Ashanti regional capital is “spotless and presentable” ahead of the King’s visit to the Asantehene, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, from June 24 to 28, 2025.
“The massive clean-up exercise aims to ensure the city of Kumasi is spotless and presentable to honour the distinguished royal guest,” the KMA said.
As part of measures to ensure full participation and efficiency, all shops and commercial establishments within the Central Business Districts (CBDs) are expected to close temporarily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the day of the exercise.
The assembly is calling on all residents, traders, businesses, and stakeholders to take an active role in the clean-up.

“We invite the good people of Kumasi to join hands in making this exercise a success,” the statement read. “Together, we can showcase our hospitality, culture, and pride in our clean city.”
King Mswati III, the last absolute monarch in Africa, is expected to pay a royal courtesy call on the Asantehene at Manhyia Palace, an event that underscores the deepening cultural and diplomatic ties between Ghana and the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland).
His visit is expected to include cultural exchanges, private engagements, and ceremonial activities.
The KMA is mobilising support from local government departments, sanitation agencies, traditional authorities, youth groups, and civic organisations to ensure the exercise is extensive and impactful.
The assembly urged all citizens to treat the visit as a moment of national pride and an opportunity to reaffirm Kumasi’s reputation as the Garden City of Ghana.
