Renowned roads and building contractor, Emmanuel Aboagye has extended financial support of five hundred thousand cedis to persons affected by the fire.

The amount was received by the Regional Coordinating Council on behalf of the traders.

Mr. Aboagye encouraged the victims to remain hopeful in rebuilding their businesses, “I am from Kumasi and I know the role small businesses play in the local economy. I am aware of the negative impact of the fire on your business.”

According to figures from the National Disaster Management Organisation, about 2900 people were affected by the Adum fire.

By the figure, 1500 people claim not to be in position to feed themselves, hence, foodstuff support from the government.

The fire ravaged three buildings occupied by traders, with many makeshift structures

being affected.

Though some traders had rejected the gesture of foodstuff support for the traders, some vulnerable persons have been to the Regional Coordinating Council for the support.

“It was based on this report that the Interior Minister, Hon. Mubarak Muntaka brought the rice and oil. We have decided that those who are in need and have come around, the NADMO should still let them have access to the materials”, he said.

Already, some financial support has been received from benevolent individuals to help the victims rebuild their businesses.

Aside from support from the private sector, the government is finding ways of mitigating the impact of the inferno on affected businesses.

President John Mahama has tasked the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and the Gender Ministry to negotiate with banks for the extension of loan repayment time for persons affected by the Adum Blue Light Arena fire.

Already, the RCC is compiling list of individuals indebted to banks for support.

“Some of them complain about their bankers pestering them to repay their loans, I made this available to the President who has requested that we take the details of the traders and their bankers so we know the loans they have taken and be able to intervene. We hope the banks give them some breathing space whiles we see how best we can support them to repay the loans”, he said.

The Minister added, “MASLOC CEO and the Gender Minister have been here. The Gender Minister was interested in the gender specific database which we have extracted all that, I will make it available to her by Wednesday and MASLOC too so they see how best they can come in.”
