Kumasi drivers okay with Mahama’s first year performance

Some commercial drivers in the Kumasi metropolis have expressed satisfaction of the NDC government’s performance in its first year in office.

The drivers praised President John Mahama for the continued drop in fuel prices in the last twelve months and said that if it continued in that way in 2026, it would have a positive impact on their operations.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during an interaction at some transport terminals in Kumasi, the drivers said that, if implemented, the projections made by the Spare Parts Dealers Association in December 2025, which sought a drop in prices, could significantly improve the transport industry and the general economy.

The drivers said affordable spare parts would not only significantly impact transport fares but also ensure road safety in the country.

Mr Kwasi Dwomoh, a bus driver at Asafo, told the GNA that it was costly to purchase parts for his vehicle whenever it broke down.

“When I heard in the news last year that prices of brand new parts were expected to drop by 60 per cent, I was relieved.

This means that we can at least trust in the Transport Ministry and the government,” he declared.

Baba Malik Yahaya, a Ford Transit driver, noted that the stability of transport fares on the Kumasi-Accra, Kumasi-Cape Coast, Takoradi, Tarkwa, and other major routes was something he admired.

All these were due to the drop in fuel prices in the previous year, he told the GNA.

He was hopeful that prices would remain at their current levels for a while to further stabilise the economy, especially in 2026.

Uncle Kwamena Andoh, a “Trotro” driver, expressed satisfaction with the government’s operations of the last few months.

He pleaded with the government to prioritise inner-city road networks, to ease the compounding traffic situation in Kumasi and peripheral communities.
