Former Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman West, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, says former President John Agyekum Kufour was more welcoming and friendly than Nana Akufo-Addo.
According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo surrounded himself with the few people he trusted and access to him by many was difficult.
“There were many times I tried to meet Nana Addo, which failed because he didn’t want many people around him, but the few he trusted. Although we had good plans and ideas, it was difficult to get to him, unlike former President Kufour, who availed himself to everyone, including me,” indicated Mr. Boateng.
He told Nhyira FM that former President Akufo-Addo was kind-hearted, but his intransigence was something that made it difficult for his government to succeed.
“I was not so close to Akufo-Addo, he has a good heart but his intransigence affected the NPP government,” he stated.
He stressed the need for leadership to open up to opinions from other loyal members for the betterment of the party.
In his view, many party stalwarts had better ideas that could help, but leadership was a challenge.
“We have to open up to party folks who have experience and ideas which can make the party attractive. Some leaders were reserved and people found it difficult to speak to them. From national to polling stations executives, every executive has something that can develop the party,” Mr. Boateng stressed.
