The Parent-Teacher Association of the Kpando Senior High School in the Kpando Municipality of the Volta Region has handed over 4 projects to the management, contributing to the infrastructure development of the school.

The projects which included a classroom block and 3 staff bungalow units among others were initiated to enhance the academic activities and performance of the students.

The school established about 70 years ago has been struggling to meet the accommodation needs of the school community.

The initiative by the Parent-Teacher Association by undertaking projects between 2019 and 2022 were aimed to help lessen the plight.

With Funding from the dues of members, 3 units of 2-bedroom apartments were constructed to accommodate teachers.

Proceeds from the water producing unit were used to finance initiatives of the association including employing casual workers to enhance staff strength.

The PTA Chairperson, Dr. Nicholas Darko said though they faced many hurdles after assuming office including COVID-19, they braced for the storms and decided to adopt a new approach to contributing to the growth of schools.

He said that between 2018-2024, the association initiated 20 projects in various departments of the school, targeted at making KPASEC,”the school of choice.”

He lamented how only 60% of members of the PTA paid dues to finance these projects and implored the rest of the membership to perform their responsibility to enable the association to undertake more projects.

“We had it tough, but through it all, I will say today we have been able to achieve certain things you and I are happy about. We have achieved so many things. I have a list of twenty items and that is not all. We have four important projects we want to commission now in the name of PTA. It took only 60% of us to support, 40% never participated and it is a shame”, he said.

The Headmaster, Charles Evans Apreku, lauded the contributions of the PTA to enhancing security on the campus by employing officers to perform such duties and augmenting staff strength in the kitchen department.

“For kitchen and security, they [PTA] have employed 13 staff that PTA pays every month”, he said.

He said the efforts of the Association have contributed to the school making significant strides in academic performance.

Mr. Apreku entreated other schools to emulate KPASEC PTA and contribute to the development of their respective schools.
